February 19: Cycle Claremont’s 2nd ride

Twenty-five new members participated Cycle Claremont’s second ride today in spite of chilly temps and a chance of rain. Claremont Mayor Sam Pedroza was among 26 returning members who participated in last month’s inaugural event. Cookies, free coffee from Last Drop Cafe and an assortment of free bagels from 42nd Street Bagel Cafe warmed up the riders and volunteers.

The riders broke into smaller groups with staggered starts, each including a leader and ride coaches. Each group listened to a brief safety talk before riding the 4-mile route within Claremont’s Bicycle Priority Zone.

As each group returned to the lot, the riders hung out and socialized while enjoying more coffee and snacks.

And a good time was had by all!

January 8: Cycle Claremont’s Inaugural Ride!

It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp and clear Sunday morning, a perfect day for Cycle Claremont‘s inaugural 4-mile introductory ride around town. Balloons and volunteers greeted the 102 riders which included children and their parents, beginners and experienced, youngsters and oldsters, and Claremont City officials including Mayor Sam Pedroza. The pre-ride festivities included free coffee and bagels (donated by Starbucks and 42nd Street Bagel) and a talk about bicycle safety. Many members of the Claremont Senior Bicycle Group (CSBG) served as volunteers. More details and lots of great photos are available on The ClaremontCyclist blog.

Cycle Claremont is a new community group organized to promote fun and safe cycling with regular family recreational bicycle rides in the Claremont community. {Read more about us!}

Our inaugural ride on January 8 was a huge success!

Our next ride will be on Sunday, February 19, 2012 @ 10:30 am. It will follow the same 4-mile route as in January. (There are future plans to modify the route for variety, and add a second route for experience riders. Stay tuned to this site for future announcements!)

We meet at the Claremont Metrolink parking lot at the corner of College Ave. and 1st Street. Plan to arrive early to sign in and mingle with your fellow riders. Helmets are mandatory and you will be asked to sign a waiver before riding.
